I'm new to this site, and I apologize if this question may have been asked already. :) Knowledge is power and hence
I'm trying to get as much information as possible before I actually purchase my own canoe. I'm curious to know peoples' experiences with the V-1 versus the OC-1. Also if experienced OC-1 paddlers have tried the V-1, what was their impression?

v1 all the way. love my Aukahi, but have a Pueo for the "bigger" days.
Paddle the v1 90% of the time since i got it and only a little on the oc1. It makes me feel like i will be a better paddler one day. Also you get some bragging rights after a downwind run if you have no rudder - proven fact.

i can also vouch for the bragging rights.

No rudder:
less drag
less directional control
much more influenced by side winds
steering with paddle strokes
and probably some other things

Since I got my rudderless, I haven't really even paddled my one-man, (OK, there was that ONE time.) There's no reason to anymore, except, like toa moana said, for those bigger days... of course, I live in Seattle, so let's face it: there are no bigger days.

im with GOTO on that one. your just always so focused paddling a v1.

i can also vouch for the focus.
if i have a rudder i hate paddling on flat days. which amazingly happens quite a bit when you live in town on O'ahu. makes my life a lot easier since i don't have to waste a ton of time trying to relay cars back and forth for hawaii kai runs etc. honestly if there was no wind in the past i just wouldn't paddle.

The deciding factor for me was weeds. I paddle on a lake that by mid-summer is choked with Eurasian Water Millfoil. Hitting a clump of that stuff with a rudder sucks. No rudder, no problem.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm still pondering what my Kanu will be. Got the cash in hand but still shopping around for the right one for me. Mahalo for all of the helpfulness.

I know two guys that have recently gotten V-1s, and both rarely paddle their oc1 now.
