Mariano,

Quick question about your OC-6's. What is the model and did you design them yourself?

nope, the oc-6 is a modified hull made by RONALD WILLIAMS out of a DENNIS CAMPBELL hull. i think the original design frorm Cambell was called PACIFIC ISLANDER.

i bought the hull and ama from Ronald, who is the father of Outrigger in Brazil, IN 2004. i signed a royalties contract for the canoes i sold.

i designed an OC-1 hull and ama after that.

thanks mariano, i would have guessed around 45 lbs for the ama and 10 each for the iako.

If Hiro was concerned about too much Aloha, we can have a conversation about the Pacific Islander mold.

I just ordered some new 'iakos for our wa'a an the pair was 27 pounds shipped, so about 6 kilograms each. Rear is probably slightly heavier because it's got a little more wood in it. Coincidentally this was for a Campbell Pacific Islander.

I know it might be a can of worms given the little I know about the PI, but I'd be curious to hear more about it Kona J.

Also, kayakjaco, please post some pictures of your canoe and ama. The bigger the better in my opinion. Any ideas on total cost and number of hours spent? This sounds like a great project and something I've contemplated recently as a way to avoid getting my real work doneā€¦

Kayak Jaco

The OC 6 that goes with the Ama pic that I sent in was taken from a drawing in the Tommy Holmes book The Hawaiian Canoe. It said racing canoe drawn to take maximum advantage of HCRA rules.
