2008 Round Bowen Challenge Outrigger Relay

Jun 8 2008 - 9:00am
Jun 8 2008 - 2:00pm
Etc/GMT-8
Event Description:

On Sunday June 8th 2008 Open Ocean Outriggers, in conjunction with Think surf skis. Seaward Kayaks and Bowen Island Sea Kayaking present the 2008 Round Bowen Challenge Outrigger Relay. A 32km ocean relay race around Bowen Island, a short 40-minute ferry rides from Vancouver.

This 32 km course has tested the mettle of solo kayakers, Surf-ski and outrigger paddlers since 2000. In a grueling test of mental fitness and paddling skill. Savvy paddlers lamented about the upwind course against the swell. Many paddlers raced it once and never returned

This years Outrigger Relay course will be divided into two legs (14km and 18km) and much like the races in Hawaii and California, will take advantage of race day conditions to ensure a downwind run along the back of Bowen Island.

The relay point will be sandy Tunstall Beach on the west side of Bowen Island, easily accessed by car for the relay change over. If you’ve skipped this race previously, this race should be on your calendar!

Join top outrigger Relay teams from BC, AB and WA as they take on this new event!

$39.00 per paddler - all registered racers receives a limited edition race paddling hat, and a delicious post race Salmon BBQ. Medals awarded for top three relay teams in Men’s, Women’s, Mixed OC-1 and OC-2 categories.

Please note I made a mistake on the SBOCC race January 19, The race is NOT a point to point race, I had read the race description wrong and thought it was a point to point.
Also the Crissy field race has been changed back to the original date, It is now on January 19, NOT january 12

January is filled with races, Why not race on a brand new boat. No excuses.
January 19 Crissy Field (Nor Cal) This is a great race with awesome water conditions,
January 19, Santa Barbara, Pier back to pier, NOT Pier to pier
January 29 HanoHano Ocean Challenge, This is the largest race of the year.
