Brazilian Va'a Federation

Description:

Created in 1999 and initially named “Brazilian Outrigger Association, the Brazilian Va’a Federation represents Brazil in the International Va’a Federation (IVF) since 1999 and supports the Rio Va’a internacional canoe race, organized since 2002 by Rio Va’a Club.

This vaabrasil webgroup was created in 2006 to promote exchanges between paddlers and race organizers in Brazil and has members in 7 brazilian states (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Bahia, Federal District, Bahia and Parana).

The group is open to all paddlers that wish to contribute and participate in the development of va’a in Brazil (also know in Brazil as outrigger, canaoa polinésia and canoa havaiana).

RIO VA’A 2006 - 6th edition - South American venue of the international Va’a Circuit

South American venue of the World Va’a long distance circuit.

Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Events:
- short distance races: V1 2000m, V2 2000m;
- V6 iron long distance (28 km) along Rio de Janeiro’s famous beaches: Copacabana, Arpoador, Ipanema, Leblon and around Suggar Loaf and into Guanabara Bay.

Dates: December 7th and 8th, 2007

History: Event organized on an annual basis by Rio Va’a Club since 2001, starting with the Rio to Angra dos Reis long distance crossing (125 km non stop).

Located on Praia Vermelha beach (Urca, next to Suggar Loaf) and Urca beach (on the Bay side of Urca neighborhood), Rio Va’a Club is the organizer of the anual Rio Va’a international canoe Race, organized since 2002.

The Rio Va’a race is recognized by the International Va’a Federation as the south american venue of the World Va’a Circuit.

Oficial club practice days are tuesdays (06:00 AM), Thurdays (06:00AM) and Saturdays (07:00AM); Team practice also on wednesdays and fridays. All practices are opened free of charge to visiting paddlers who may contact us at riovaa@aol.com.

Rio Va’a Club also runs the CANOA RIO social project, for young paddlers from public schools and from the Benjamin Constant Institute for the visually impaired. Canoa Rio is supported through equipment donation; Thanks to contributors from Washington DC, France, Canada, Hawaii, and California !
