Maybe it's better to stay closer to the finish so you have a shorter ride after the race. I stayed near Hanalei for the 2017 race, which was very convenient for getting to the start and practicing in the bay. However, it was a long, uncomfortable ride back from the finish in a very overcrowded bus.
