on the long course, some folks opted not to go around the red channel marker coming into the ala wai, that we were told to go around in the pre-race meeting
Hey!!! That is the best part of the race, yelling: "make a hole, coming through" to all the surfers and catching a wave. It was usually paddler's choice on whether to play it safe and come in via the channel or surf in.
the guy in front of me didn't go around it, so neither did I (plus i had tunnel vision for the harbour mouth), but if you want to disqualify my last place in my division...go for it

I heard Aaron won on a Polaris. Do they still make those??
