Nick’s Fishmarket Maui Championship

Weather let us down for the first time all season. Even setting the buoys was tricky. Our water official Mary Keilty had to do a rescue of a visitor while setting the finish buoy. Those nasty on-shore winds and head current made for tough slugging. Fortunately, Steinlager helped us nurse our wounds as we “re-hydrated” after the race.

New plans for OCPaddler.com! (Apr. 1st)

This was an April fools joke that covered the main page April 1st, 2007
I've been running this website for over four years now with moderate success. People seem to like having their results online and sometimes there is something worthy to talk about in the forums. Really though, what gets the most attention is the personal stuff. The juicy details, things no one would say anywhere but the internet. That is why I'm changing OCPaddler.com into my own personal paddling blog! No more results or race coverage, you can check the newspaper for that. It's all about me!

2nd Annual Hurricane Invitational Race

Results of today's 2nd Annual Hurricane Invitational Race. The 11 mile course ran south from Keokea in North Kohala to the old Coast Guard Station, south of Upolu Airport. Moderate swells and gusty winds made for fast times, and all 56 racers finished within 30 minutes of one another, first to last across the line. Six Jetskis kept track of everyone on the open ocean, and all paddlers, including 5 juniors and 8 women, did a great job in safely finishing the sometimes difficult course.

Kohala Coast Challenge

On a flat water, hot day, the 13th Annual Kohala Coast Challenge was held today with all events starting and finishing at Kawaihae Harbor. Always one of the most popular of the Hawaii Island Paddlesports Series, this event had the best turnout of any of this year's races. To start the day, 19 paddleboarders and 10 Juniors competed on a 3 mile course. Then the 81 canoes on the 5 mile short course competed, followed by 26 entrants on the long course.
