On Thursday, November 23 the 6th Annual Turkey Shoot brought together over 90 paddlers in 68 boats - everything from OC-6’s to OC-1's and OC-2’s to stand up paddle boards, surfskis and rudderless canoes. Each paddler paid his/her entry fee in canned goods and paddlers managed to fill up the entire bed of a pickup truck with food for those less fortunate. The collected canned goods were delivered to Christ the King’s food program for direct delivery to families in need over the holiday season.

Map your canoe club

A couple features were added to the website last weekend. You can now add map coordinates on the canoe club listing page. This adds a Google Map link that allows you to find directions to a canoe club. Check it out on the canoe clubs page. If you don't see your club, you can login and add it. If there is no map for your club, edit the page to add it. I only mapped clubs that I could locate exactly, but if we all chip in it could be a real useful resource.

Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama stand up paddle for awareness

KAPALUA -- Big wave surfers Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama were happy to ride occasional small, open-ocean rollers Friday afternoon as they stood on their surfboards and paddled across the Pailolo Channel between Maui and Molokai.

Each glide on the deep blue waves took them a bit closer to Molokai and meant they had a few less strokes to paddle in their arduous journey from one end of the state to the other.
