Jan 24 - Kai & Lauren win Leilani's Triangle Race

[few photos now included]

Anybody know what happened to the trade winds? Maui Canoe & Kayak Club had a nice calm day of racing. There was a tiny push from the north, which after working hard to catch gave us a little reprieve from the hot conditions. It was a tough race for all but we are thankful for the clear, thunder and lightning free skies.

Jan 24 - MOC1 Sprint Championship - Tumon Bay, Guam

Tumon Bay was the perfect setting Saturday as the Sprint portion of the 1 Man Outrigger season finished up under clear blue skies, turquoise water and hardly any wind to blow the paddlers around.

Racing on the old SPG course at Matapang Beach, almost 40 paddlers turned out to compete in 500 and 1000 meter courses. Hosted by Outrigger Guam Canoe Club and sponsored under the auspices of the Guam Kayak and Canoe Federation, paddlers were seeded into heats by their previous racing records, and saw Guams oldest and newest paddlers grinding it out against one another in every division.

Outrigger Canoe Safety - What Every Paddler Needs to Know

Safety Gear
What every paddler needs to know
By: Skipper Rich Lagrand

Over the past couple of weeks, I have participated in a series of exchanges on ocpaddler.com and on the outrigger yahoo group on the issue of safety gear. While there have been a few quite vocal dissenters, I have received far more responses of encouragement and thanks. Paddlers all over the world who, having been given a fresh perspective, are rethinking their personal safety and what gear they will be using in the future.
