Nice video, that was pretty close to the rocks, Eric. And then - did you see that bent shaft Black Bart paddle - wow.
Black Barts are not produced anymore; there are some copies, afaik, but it's not the same.
Did you sort out the copyright of the music ?

Great video and sounds to put you in the mood of paddling in Hawaii.
That is a nice looking paddle. More traditional and much better looking than the Kialoa Lolo/Pono or their new Wacky Helium. Where'd you get it and how much was it?

That's what I heard as well. Bud "Black Bart" Moll died a while back and his paddles haven't been made anymore. Yes, I know about the copies (Black Jack Carbon model from We-No-Nah Canoe) but haven't seen a double bend one like that available anywhere.
Found this page http://www.wave.net/upg/pacrim/2bend.html that showed it along with other double bends, but nothing more than that.

Thanks for the cool vid hanshead. Talking about copyright. Google video didn't accept my last video from our Santa Barbara race. They have some filter now which scans for copyrighted stuff. Even though it didn't quantify if the offense was video or audio, it had to be the audio of Talking Heads. Subsequently I submitted the video to blip tv without problems. Because I respect the original artist I wish there was some system for paying some royalties for using stuff in our amateur videos, rather then just blocking it and threatening to take down all my other videos already posted. I'd be hard pressed to become a composer on top of everything else.
Any thoughts?

google should pay the royalties for us. Aren't they making enough money with user generated content ?

Thanks for taking us with you from the racks to the ocean back to the racks. I think you captured a sun spot @ 4:33.

The "wheels" brah! Where you get them? Or you went make them yourself? And how you go store them down the beach without somebody borrowing them while you out paddling?
Eh! And yes, my first all carbon paddle was a Black Bart that I bought from Keoni at Downing Hawaii Get Wet in Kaimuki around 1990. They only came in one width size: eight (8) inches wide. Bart refused to make them any wider, so most paddlers would widen them to around 9 to 91/2 inches wide themselves. By the time Bart made them wider, other paddle makers had already met the demand of the popular growing one-man market for wider blades and the later "pizza paddle" shapes.
ps: I like your elevated pvc camera holder on the rear iako. Good Idea.

Karel used a Genuine Black Bart (9 inch wide) for the "Doctor Race" in Perth. He also had as his spare blade, a one off very light weight all timber Black Bart that they made for him. It was actually lighter than the carbon one.
I have two of them myself, one is at least 18 years old and has the very fine woven carbon and the spun tapered shaft, the other is the same shape but different carbon weave.
I have been offered $800 for the older one in the past but would never sell it, too many memories and it had a past history even before i bought it 18 years ago.
These blades were ahead of their time.
Post some pics later.

Any results from the Outlaw Race in Australia, i think Karel was supposed to be entered in that also.

No Results yet and no, Karel flew home the Weds before the event. It was a memorable downwind paddle though, especially surfing across Bells Bch.

Mahalo hanshead for the wheels info, for it's a really good idea. Next time the winds are like that, but blowing harder, Try a run from Kahana Bay to N. Beach or Runway Beach (since you got access to MCBH) or to the Boat Ramp Lanikai?
800 AUS for an old Black Bart!!!! Gee Rambo, I sold mine for $100 USD in '92, now wish I'd kept it too. Maybe my Black Bart T-shirt is worth big bucks now?

Yeah i know it's a lot of money for an old paddle, the bloke i bought it off 18 years ago wants to buy it back, rings me at least once a year. Apparently it belonged to a well known Mid West American C1/C2 paddler and had a checkered history. I think he passed away, don't know his name.
Probably be worthless when i kick the bucket .... hahahaha

Eric, can we see a sneak preview from tonight's paddle ?
You had some very nice runs, ideal waves for a Kailua video.
