MCKC and paddling

To everyone that paddles in a MCKC race, mahalo nui loa! We just completed Maui to Molokai and had a great number of entrants from the different moku's and from states and other countries. I am amazed with each race to see the different paddlers that turn out; some turn out for one race and others for every race. Maui to Molokai is special as it is the culmination of the season and I love seeing the paddlers cross the line and sit there and see/hear them share with one another what the experience was like and what course they took. Sharon's story reflected what the race was about.

Manny, Danny and everyone else who came from off island and from another state or country, we appreciate that you come to Maui to participate in this race. To the Maui paddlers and repeaters who come from off island every year, we are so happy that you come! Sharon is right, wind or no wind, this is always a question. Yet, people turn out year after year and it's a joy to see names registered that we see each year. For newcomers, we hope that you enjoyed the race enough that you may consider scheduling a vist to coincide with next year's race.

Any race association depends on the people who help out and whether we are on Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii island, another state or country, everyone is appreciated. Paddlers do recognize this and will say "Thank You" for your help. Race directors have it hard as they cannot get out out on the water till the end and water officials may get frustrated as they want to start the race, but these are the people who make it work. For Maui, mahalo to Tim, Rob, Sharon and Ricky for all the work that you put in to putting on the races. For all the volunteers, there is no price to what you give. I believe that any paddler that that is involved recognizes this. Water officials also help to keep everyone safe and we may not always say "Thank you", but you are appreciated.

Okay, I'm being wordy, but paddlers everywhere will hopefully acknowledge what I say. Mahalo to everyone that enjoys paddling!
