PA'A Costume Race

Hey gang,

Sorry so long with the Halloween race recap. We’ve spent the last week overhauling the PA’A website and making sure we could post race pictures for everyone…there’s lots thanks to Lono of Makai Magazine and the camera crew from Painted Cave Studios. Check out www.paahawaii.com

Everyone went the extra yard with their costumes to make this first ever Halloween race a hilarious event. We had a record 38 women in attendance of which almost half were first time racers – the $5 special entry fee may have helped. Way to go ladies!

Despite the Voggy week we had before Halloween, we were blessed with enough trade winds to get paddlers to the finish line without heat stroke. The start line was pure comedy with over a hundred characters manning OC1’s, OC2’s, V1’s, SS1’s, Pdlbrd, and SUP. For the most part, paddlers were game and wore their costumes the entire race, falling to pieces at the finish line.

Paddlers were entertained even further after the race at the Elk’s lodge with lunch, awards, free drinks, and a costume contest. Thanks to all our sponsors who put up cool prizes: Kamanu Composites, Makana Ali’i, HVA, PA’A, and Dakine.

In the end, it was “The Native” who won over the crowd with best costume and walked away with the Makana Ali’i blade
