QUEEN LILIUOKALANI **** UPDATES *****

Aloha Paddlers!

The 2011 Annual Queen Liliuokalani Outrigger Canoe Races promises to be a huge 40th annual celebration of racing, mingling and cultural events. We have never before had so many early entries! So if you haven’t yet logged onto kaiopua.org to get registered…get on line and do it now! Want more incentive? Every canoe number registered for our Saturday race is eligible to win a brand new six-man Mirage!

Need more info for Kai Opua and the Queen Liliuokalani Outrigger Canoe Races in general? Log onto our website and you’ll find loads of information. We have a lot of races over the three days of the weekend and our on line registration is a thing of beauty for getting into all the crew and division options you may need. You can always use the “Contact Us” link for any questions you many have.

What’s important right now? With all the out-of-state registrations we already have confirmed, Kai Opua has reached its limit for canoes available to loan to all of our amazing mainland and international participants. So if you are coming from out-of-state and still have yet to register and pay, you are on a wait list for a canoe. What will get you off the wait list and confirm your entry(s) is for you to be very proactive…right now…to hook up with some other canoe club in Hawaii to rent a canoe. Please use our Queen Liliuokalani blog as one avenue to ask for a canoe, but try every other possibility out there that Hawaii canoe clubs might respond to:
www.hawaiianh2o.com
www.ocpaddler.com
www.y2kanu.com
www.hcrapaddler.com/index.php?action=clublist

Bottom line...to our out-of-state friends that have gone on line, have registered, but have not yet paid:
Your entry is not confirmed and even if you pay now, you will have to find a canoe to use from another club. If you pay your entry and have confirmed the use of a canoe(s) from another source, please give us that information.
To those of you who have put in your intent (and canoe requests), if you now find that you have a crew or two that will not be coming to Kona, please go on line and edit your registration to make your registration more accurate. Again, you will now have to source a canoe from another club to

If you are a Hawaii based canoe club, please get your entry intent in, on-line asap. The sooner you can get your crews organized and canoe shipping booked with Young Bros, the better. Are you in a position to go the extra mile and help out-of state crews get off the wait list? Then please contact us ASAP to let us know that you can ship more canoes than your crews will need for the race weekend. Please do this via our “Contact Us” link on kaiopua.org and post on our blog that you have a canoe available for rent. Of course this will be either a fundraising opportunity for your club, or Kai Opua will find a way to comp you in exchange for helping us put more international and mainland crews on the water.

For the 2nd Annual Alii Challenge updates, please go to that link on our website for more details. If you love to paddle and have wanted to prove your ability to solve clues and perform tasks (a la Amazing Race), this race is for you. Every year will give you a bit of a paddling challenge (that you will know how to be prepare for) but each new edition will provide race participants with new challenges on land and water that will only be revealed as the race unfolds…serious fun!
