Race Around the Hat 2016

Just posted this on Facebook, but also want to add it to the forum as well to make sure we reach as many people as possible. Date is set for RATH 2016. Please read the details below. Any news and updates can be found on the RATH listing on the left side of the OCP main page. Or you can follow HVA on Twitter and Facbook. Thank you everyone for all your support throughout the years. See you in July!

In 2016 the Race Around the Hat will add a marathon event to create a weekend long race event. This additional race will be held on Sunday, July 3rd. The RATH races are on July 2nd and will remain the same as previous years. RATH is still a cumulative race consisting of a prologue and 45 minute final. RATH's divisions for Novice, Juniors, Women, and Men remain the same. The emphasis for the RATH is still having FUN and paddling.

For Sunday's race paddlers will receive discounted entry if they also raced the RATH. The RATH is also a qualifier for the Marathon Championship race on Sunday. Meaning that athletes who wish to race the Marathon and be eligible to claim any prizes or round trip air fare to Tahiti (to participate in Te Aito or Super Aito) must also face the RATH. Paddlers are allowed to race only the Marathon portion but you will NOT be eligible for any prizes. Also if you plan on borrowing a canoe for the Marathon race these will be awarded in order of finish from Saturday's races. Race course for Sunday is not yet finalized, but it will be in and around Kane‘ohe Bay and Mokoli‘i.

To encourage families, paddlers and/or spectators to hang out at the beach and watch Sunday's race; the HVA will continue to have prize give aways and fun paddling related events for all the spectators. Come on down to Kualoa Beach Park and enjoy a fun filled weekend!

Hawaii's original V-1 race just got a whole lot better.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of the RATH or the Marathon race on Sunday, please contact us through PM on ocpaddller.com or via email hawaiivaa@gmail.com
