Kaimana by John Puakea (Hawaii) and Holo Nui by HYPR (China)
It was recently announced that HYPR Canoes (manufactured in China) has a container of one-man outrigger canoes (OC-1) scheduled to arrive in Europe this April. This announcement indicated that this shipment would include the Kaimana OC-1 by John Puakea of Hawaii. This statement is fundamentally inaccurate.
Kaku Designs and John Puakea endorse the worldwide growth of OC-1. The emergence of a market in Europe for our Hawaiian sport is both wonderful and significant. However, it is important to distinguish that the Holo Nui, a HYPR design, is fundamentally different from the Kaimana by John Puakea.
