The final day of paddling was accomplished in the largest seas seen during the journey. The blackness of the sky and ocean during the three hours after the setting of the moon and the coming of the dawn, combined by powerful seas, struck some measure of fear among most of the paddlers. Powerful swells, spray driven by cold wind, and the overwhelming dark made the last part of the paddle memorable. Perhaps even unforgettable."
