Event Description:

PA'A Koa Nui Race 2009 -- March 7, 8, 2009

This year PA'A's 2nd annual Koa Nui Race event is bound to determine who Hawaii's best OC1 coastal water paddlers are. This unique race format presents 3 stage races over 2 days to test each paddler's ability in both flat water and surfing conditions. Last year's 2008 Koa Nui Race drew Hawaii's best athletes from Maui, Kauai, Big Is., and Oahu as well as international competition from Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Wedded couple Kai and Lauren Bartlett managed to out-paddle the field and walk away as the Koa Nui Champions for 2008 and they will definitely be looking to repeat this year.

Races are designed for all skill levels, with 2 separate courses (short and long) for each race stage. Paddlers are encouraged to race all 3 races, but for those who are only able to paddle in one stage will be allowed to do so. Cumulative overall times will determine winners.

March 7, 2009 Saturday -- Stage 1 and 2
Stage 1 -- 2 mile time trial in Koko Marina
Stage 2 Long Course -- 8 miles from Rabbit Is. to Hawaii Kai Shack; Stage 2 Short Course -- 4 mile Hawaii Kai Triangle

March 8, 2009 Sunday -- Stage 3
Stage 3 Long Course -- 18 miles from Rabbit Is. to Waikiki (Molokai Hoe finish site); Stage 3 Short Course -- Hawaii Kai to Waikiki (9 miles)

Feb 15 2009 12:00 pm
Etc/GMT-10
Event Description:

Aloha Gang,

Sunday's Pinky's Race will take an alternate course from Hawaii Kai to Ala Wai. With increasing tradewind strength, race coordinators feel it would be unsafe for paddlers and safety boats to cover the original course on the windward side. Besides the wind, a large east swell makes conditions hazardous at the entry of the Pinky's canal. Hope you can all still join us for a smoking Hawaii Kai Run.

Registration on Sunday will be at Hawaii Kai Boat Ramp 7:30am - 9:15am
Long and Short Course: Hawaii Kai to Anuenue Canoe Club site (next to the finish of the Molokai Hoe)
Pre-race Meeting at 9:15am
Awards and Lunch to follow at the finish
Open to OC1, OC2, SS1, Paddleboard, and SUP
Entry Fee $25
Leashes required

Please do not park out of parking stalls. DO NOT DRIVE OR PARK ON THE GRASS!! This is so we don't lose our privelages to use the Boat ramp area for our races.

We wil try to resume our Pinky's Race next week on Sunday February 22, weather permitting. Details to be announced next week.
