17th Annual Lanikai Cold Pack Classic

Event Description

THE 17TH ANNUAL
LANIKAI COLDPACK CLASSIC
In 1992, OC-1 was a minority with only a handful of participants on the starting line of any race. So in 1993 the Cold Pack was formed as an OC-1 only race to help grow the participation of OC-1. Men and women raced separately because there were not enough OC-1's yet in the market and couples had to share canoes. It also signified a time to start training again, and a good excuse to have a party. Over the years, OC-1 has grown to be the majority of craft on any given starting line, yet the Cold Pack still remains the same low key race with a great party, but now you can race anything you want. However, the grand prize is only awarded to the OC-1 winner.
Saturday, December 12, 2009
COURSES: Subject to change with weather
SHORT – Approximately 3.5 miles inside Lanikai reef and the Mokulua Islands.
LONG – Weather pending: From Lanikai Canoe Club paddling site, the course heads towards Waimanalo to Wailea Point, then rounds the Mokulua Islands and Flat Island, then finish back at LCC paddling site (appx. 5.5 miles).
REGISTRATION: Begins at 8:00 a.m.
PARKING: Inside Lanikai Park
START TIMES: 10:00 a.m. – WOMEN’S LONG AND SHORT COURSE
11:30 a.m. – MEN’S LONG AND SHORT COURSE
1:30 p.m. - Lunch & Awards
DIVISIONS: OC-1, OC-2, SUP, Surfski, etc...
Men and Women race separately. Novice, Juniors, age groups (18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+), Open. (OC-2 divisions - add ages and divide by two for your category). Mixed races with the men.
ENTRY FEE: $20 and a Cold Pack of your favorite beverage for the canoe cooler
Mahalo to: Bud Light, XCEL, ENZA fruit, Pacific Paddler, Kialoa, Hinano, Ocean Paddler TV, Soljah, Outrigger Zone and Foti Bros.

Kalua Turkey Fundraiser 2009

Event Description

Keahiakahoe Canoe Club is proud to announce their Annual Kalua Turkey Fundraiser to be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Tired of plain baked or deep fried turkey? Take the guess work out of testing your turkey for the optimal temperature, and let us do the work with a refreshing twist on the Thanksgiving feast. Kalua Turkey is a delectable treat when cooked in a traditional “imu.” This is quickly becoming a time honored tradition and space is limited.
This years Kalua Turkey Fundraiser will start on Wednesday November 25, 2009 with turkey drop-off between 4:00 – 5:30pm at Kahalu’u Beach Park (our practice site) located across from Kahalu’u District Park. All turkeys must be thawed, seasoned and wrapped in aluminum foil at least three times to keep the juices in and the turkey moist. (No foil pans please!) The turkeys will then be roasted in the imu over night. Turkey pick-up will be the following morning on Thursday November 26, 2009 from 9:00 – 11:00am at Kahalu’u Beach Park once again. Please bring a foil pan for pick-up as the turkeys will still be HOT.
And we don’t discriminate on the size of the turkey either. 5lbs or 15lbs, what ever suits your family, all are welcome. Purchase of your pre-sale ticket doesn’t limit you to only turkeys. In past years, we’ve roasted Pork, Laulaus, and Palusami. What ever your heart desires and imagination can think up. Tickets are $15 per turkey / dish and proceeds will go toward refurbishing our aging koa canoe “Keolahouomaeha’apiti.” As an added special, you can also purchase two tickets for $25. We are delighted to provide this type of service and welcome all participants to “our Kahalu’u.”
For more information and tickets contact:
Stan Dickson @ (808) 222-5975 or
Gilbert Silva @ (808) 348-3359
Come join us in our fundraising effort and let's make waves!

The workout is a quick 4 mile scenic route from Kamaole I Beach Park to Ka Lae Pohaku (Kihei Canoe Club) unless the trade winds pick up which in that case it would be reversed. All floating, sea worthy vehicles are welcomed. There will be a raffle at the end. The food bank really needs the support this year so please kokua this effort. Mahalo Nui.
