kaiwi challenger

Can anybody tell me the paddling characteristics of the Kaiwi Challenger. Suitability for open ocean paddling. I want to begin paddling and have found a good deal on a restored K. C. Local shop tells me it's a bad idea.
Anybody else in Hawaii have a great deal on a boat for sale? I am on Big Island and am 6'3", 190 lbs.
