Unlicensed Bounty Hunter Arrested

Filed in

Dennis Kariores, 42, was arrested by the federal Gulf Coast Regional Task Force in Pensacola, Fla., on charges that he allegedly detained suspects unlawfully in the course of posing as a bounty hunter. Kariores has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and second degree kidnapping after an incident involving a woman whose husband he was attempting to reach in regards to a bond agreement dispute. He is also being charged with first degree burglary for the February for the illegal entry of a residence in the 1100 block of North Nelson Street connected with the incident and in a separate allegation of assisting to transport a fugitive from Spokane Valley to Spokane where he was arrested by Alan Edwards, a Spokane police officer. Officer Edwards has been suspended for two weeks for his participation.

Kariores was aided by two licensed bond agents, John P. McCormick and Eric W. Houchin, but prosecutors charge that neither of them were in a position of authority to do so. Both agents have pled not guilty to the charges and a trial is pending. A convicted felon, Kariores had applied to the State of Washington for a recovery agent license but had been denied in 2009.
