New York counterpart Henrik Lundqvist has grown

NEW YORK -- In the first-round matchup between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals there is a Vezina Trophy-winning goalie who has taken his team to the Eastern Conference finals, and of course there is . Air Max 97 Schuhe Damen Weiß... the other guy. No, Washingtons Braden Holtby doesnt have the awards, the accolades or the attention that New York counterpart Henrik Lundqvist has grown accustomed to. What he and the Capitals do have is a big 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series that resumes with Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. Holtby yielded only one goal in the Capitals victory in Game 1, outdueling Lundqvist on a night the star goalie felt at least one if not two of the three Washington goals should have been stopped. Holtby and Lundqvist were both on top of their games Saturday and pitched regulation shutouts at each other. Mike Green managed to get a power-play shot past Lundqvist in overtime, and the Capitals held serve at home with a stirring 1-0 victory. First-year Capitals coach Adam Oates is no stranger to Lundqvists game. Consider him impressed. "Hes exactly what everybody says. Hes a great goalie," Oates said. Holtby is making a name for himself, too, after going 23-12-1 with a 2.58 goals-against average in 36 regular-season games. He had only been in 21 total NHL games the previous two seasons before getting into 14 playoff games a year ago. He stayed off the ice on Sunday and enjoyed some well-earned rest time. "Rest is obviously an important part in preparation," Holtby said. "Well get back on the ice (Monday) in pregame skate and get our legs back under us. Use the rest to our advantage and come in with the right frame of mind and ready to play." Madison Square Garden will surely be fired up on Monday, but there will be a healthy dose of nerves in the crowd, too, especially if the Rangers cant find their suddenly absent offence in a hurry. Carl Hagelin gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead with 3:16 left in the first period of Game 1, and they havent scored since -- going 111 minutes, 16 seconds without putting a puck past Holtby. "We know theyre going to make a push," Holtby said Sunday after the Capitals held an optional practice before heading to New York. "Its a big game for both of us." If Washington can manage even a split of the next two games in New York, it knows it will return home at worst with a chance to knock out the Rangers in Game 5. "Its one of the best atmospheres in the league. I believe we have the best here at Verizon Center," Holtby said. "Theyre passionate fans. They obviously want to help the team win. Our job is to block all that out. "We have a job to do, to win the game. The atmosphere, the fans, the other team, that doesnt matter. We have our goal in mind, and were going to prepare for that." The Capitals have looked ready for the Rangers from the start. Not only isnt New York scoring on the power play (0-for-7), it isnt scoring at all. "Weve got to be better, go to the dirty areas, make it hard, make it so he cant get out of his crease," said Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh, whose delay-of-game penalty in overtime led to the winning goal. "In this series, its tough for both teams to get goals, so maybe we just need to put a couple more bodies around the net and throw it there." Washington has relied on its system to shut down the Rangers. Forget about goals, New York didnt even muster a shot on net in the final 17:43 of play Sunday. "I think a little bit of fatigue came into the game," Oates said. "They had more chances. (Rick) Nash gets a breakaway. He didnt get a shot on net, so, one of the most glorious chances of the game. Every statistic is skewed. They were in our zone a lot." The Rangers, who reached the East finals a year ago before losing to New Jersey, have only come back once to win a series they trailed 2-0. "That is the furthest thing as a worry for me," Rangers coach John Tortorella said Sunday when asked if his team was discouraged. "This is a good group of guys, and last time I remember you need four games to win a series. Our guys are fully aware of that." New York got injured forwards Brian Boyle and Derek Dorsett back in the lineup on Saturday, and they could have Ryane Clowe in there for Game 3. Clowe, out since sustaining a suspected concussion on April 25, took part in practice on Sunday. He skated hard on Saturday, but was kept out of the lineup. If he isnt ready to go on Monday, it might not be much longer before he is well enough to play. "Im not sure. Its a possibility," he said. "I feel pretty good. I think its day by day right now. The first time I really skated hard was (Saturday). Its just nice to get back in the routine of being on the ice every day." Nike Air Max 97 Schuhe Damen Weiß. In the second quarter, Luol Deng was walking to the locker room even before his three-pointer from the corner swished through the net at the halftime buzzer.TORONTO -- Its tough to set personal goals in an unpredictable sport like auto racing, so James Hinchcliffe is just aiming for a little consistency. The IndyCar season has yet to start but the popular driver from Oakville, Ont., has already taken a step in that direction, returning to the same team -- Andretti Autosport -- for the first time in his career. Hes hoping that continuity makes for a better season than last years that saw him race out to a strong start before some bad luck and mistakes cost him down the stretch. "Theres so many things out of your control," Hinchcliffe said Thursday. "You could drive well enough to win a given race, but if a yellow falls at the wrong time or somebody runs into you, or theres a problem on the pit stop, you lose. "The only goal I really work towards is minimizing mistakes, making sure that every single Saturday and every single Sunday, were out there and we maximize what we have. Youre not always going to have the race-winning car, but if you have a fourth-place car, make sure you finish fourth and not seventh. Its all about maximizing the package that you have and minimizing any mistakes." The 26-year-old opens the season this weekend at Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, a track he finished fourth on last year. Hes itching to get started after an off-season that was a month longer than it would normally be after a race was dropped from the schedule. The Canadian driver of Andretti Autosports No. 27 Team GoDaddy.com car -- Danica Patricks old car -- was second in the drivers standings halfway through last season before ultimately winding up eighth. Hinchcliffe was happy with 2012, "coming into this team and we ran competitively right off the bat, from the first weekend onwards. And it wasnt just a one kind of track, it was at every kind of track, which was nice to see." The results stopped coming in the second half, however, which he chalked up to mistakes on his part, mistakes on the teams part, and a run of bad luck. "We got taken out a couple of races by things outside of our control," he said. He raced to a couple of third-place finishes, at Long Beach, Calif., in April and Milwaukee in June. He qualified second overall for the 96th Indianapolis 500 wearing a pair of gloves that belonged to the late Greg Moore, who Hinchcliffe has credited as the main reason he got into racing. He overtook pole-sitter Ryan Briscoe on the first lap and ended up leading five of the 200 laps en route to a sixth-place finish. Frustration came in Iowa where he looked poised to win his first Series race only to lose control on Lap 195 and crash. HHe also crashed in Detroit after a chunk of pavement flew up under his car, sending him into a tire barrier. Nike Air Max 2013 Schuhe Engine problems derailed his homecoming at Hondy Indy Toronto in July, eventually knocking him out of the race on Lap 28. "I think theres always improvements to make, this is one of those sports where as a driver youre constantly evolving and your constantly learning, and every lap you do you learn something else," he said, on what he hopes to do better this season. While Patrick has shone since moving to NASCAR, winning the pole position for the Daytona 500 in her first race on the circuit, Hinchliffe said he doesnt feel any added pressure to keep up with the woman he succeeded, and a fellow GoDaddy.com driver. "As a competitive person in general no matter what sport youre in, you put so much pressure on yourself that its hard for an external source to really add any more," he said. "Certainly when theres media attention around you, theres maybe a little bit more attention, but certainly no more pressure. And so for me as somebody thats driven to do well and win and compete at the highest level, theres not a whole lot that anyone else can so or do to pure more pressure on me than I do myself. "Good to see someone else in a Godaddycar doing well, Im certainly happy for her, but were just keeping our head down and trying to do the best job that we can." Hinchcliffe is hoping for a better result in his home race at Torontos IndyCar double-header July 12-14, where all the emotions he would have on a normal weekend are heightened. "If you do really well it means that much more. If something goes wrong, and you do poorly, it hurts more than it does at another track," he said. Toronto is the only Canadian stop on the Series after the Edmontons race at City Centre Airport was cancelled. "Definitely disappointing to lose a race in Canada. I would love to get a couple more stops around the country," said Hinchcliffe, mentioning Montreals Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Mosport Racetrack in Oshawa, Ont., plus Calgary and Vancouver. Despite the extended off-season, Hinchcliffe didnt get as much time to spend north of the border as he normally does during the break. "The boss of the family, the mother-unit, decided that we were doing family Christmas on a beach this year," he said, laughing. "Not complaining certainly, but thats sort of the one chance I get to come home for a couple of weeks, and catch up with people. Instead we were on a beach (on the Turks and Caicos Islands). But it was beautiful, not a bad way to do it." ' ' '
