PARIS -- Canadians skated away with two gold medals at the Trophee Bompard on Saturday. Nike Free Run Damen Blau. World champion Patrick Chan won in mens solo competition for the third time at the Grand Prix event in Paris, while Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir defended their overnight lead in the free dance to win in ice dancing. Torontos Chan started strong by nailing a quad toe loop-triple toe loop combination, but then lost his balance during the circular step sequence. It seemed to affect his confidence, and he landed awkwardly on two jumps in quick succession. "The warmup felt really good, the program didnt," Chan said. "I felt shaky on the quads all week. Sometimes you make mistakes but overall Im very pleased." Having dominated the short program on Friday, Chan had enough overall points (240.60) to comfortably beat Song Nan of China (224.10) and the Czech Republics Michal Brezina (218.60). Virtue, from London, Ont., and Moir, from Ilderton, Ont., scored a total of 176.93 points to beat defending champions Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat of France (164.56) for their gold medal. Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte of Italy finished third with 153.76. Both Virtue and Moir felt their short program needed some polish, but were pleased with the final result. "Our short dance was a step in the right direction, theres still a lot Id like to do with it," said Virtue. "We had a few bobbles here and there. It wasnt necessarily our best. "I think weve been training that program much better at home but weve made some changes since Skate Canada (in late Oct.) and I think they were definitely positive." Chan, Virtue and Moir have all qualified for the Grand Prix Final which will be held in Quebec City in early December. "Im really excited going into Quebec," Chan said. "Every single final Ive done has been somewhere else, somewhere abroad, and this is the first time itll be in Canada. "Im so excited to go and defend my Grand Prix Final title." The reigning world champion is confident in the program hes put together this year, and will just work on his comfort levels with the routine as he prepares for Quebec. "The program will pretty much stay the same," Chan said. "Its just re-enforcing those movement patterns and jump patterns and everything. Just getting myself to where its almost second nature, not even hesitate going into these jumps. "Aesthetically, mostly everything will stay the same." Virtue echoed Chans dedication to practise, with a focus on execution heading into the Grand Prix Final. "Were really happy with where the programs are and we cant wait to get home and work on them even more before the Grand Prix Final," said Virtue. Illness affected several Canadian athletes leading up to the Trophee Bompard. Kevin Reynolds of Coquitlam, B.C., was sixth after the short program but had to withdraw with a stomach flu. Chan struggled with a fever in the days leading up to the event. "I didnt feel so good the first couple of days, like my balance was off on the ice," Chan said. "I started feeling better for the short and felt really relaxed going into the program and felt relaxed going into the long as well. "I just didnt have the pop I wanted on the quad and on the other jumps. I made the best of the situation." Later, world junior runner-up Elizaveta Tuktamisheva won the womens event after a clinical free program. The 14-year-old Russian had the crowd on its feet as she nailed all of her jumps with barely a wobble, following up her win at Skate Canada -- where she was the youngest winner in 30 years -- with another composed performance. Despite another win in only her second senior Grand Prix appearance, Tuktamisheva was focusing only on where she can improve. "I didnt skate badly but there were still a few minor mistakes I could improve on," she said. "Next year Ill be able to go to the European and world championships, but not as a junior." Also, Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford of Balmerton, Ont., won bronze in pairs figure skating with 176.62 points. "That was a fight for us," said Radford, who admitted they struggled to find a consistent rhythm. "We did a great element, then we had some problems. Were capable of scoring a lot higher than that." Russias Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov took gold with 194.13 points, while Russians Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov won silver with a score of 184.91. Jessica Dube of Saint-Cyrille de Wendover, Que., and Sebastien Wolfe of Terrebonne, Que, placed fifth with 150.68 points. Nike Free Schuhe Günstig. Javier Hernandezs close-range finish in the 19th minute was enough to earn the Premier League champions their first victory at Goodison Park since 2007. Alex Fergusons side kept up the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the league and also went some way to erasing the memory of the 6-1 humiliation a week ago. Nike Free Schuhe Damen. But Jones reach, varied attack and ground and pound took a toll on the veteran challenger, whose face went from bad to worse each round. Nike Free Schuhe. The result matched his medal tally when the biennial championships were held in Dubai in 2010. Lochte won the 100-meter individual medley, a day after he broke the world record in the event. Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg scored to back Corey Crawford, and Chicago hung on to beat the St.SURREY, B.C. -- B.C.-born kicker Paul McCallum had no intention of shopping his services. The Surrey, B.C., native and oldest CFLer at 42 signed a new contract with the Lions, signalling stability in the kicking game as B.C. seeks to defend its Grey Cup title. "I didnt want to go anywhere else," said McCallum, who doubles as a realtor in the Vancouver area. "This was where I was born and (have) grown up, and my familys here. "I want to retire here, so (re-signing) just made a lot of sense." A year after his future with the franchise was precarious, McCallum now holds a lock on the position as he enters his 20th CFL season. "Im having fun, Im still feeling well and Im feeling strong, so Im just going to keep on going," said McCallum. After B.C. traded a much younger Sean Whyte to Montreal, McCallum played a huge role for the team as he booted a record 30 straight field goals and helped the Lions overcome a 1-5 start en route to their unlikely run to the crown. He also set a new league record for field goal percentage (94.3) while capturing the CFL special teams player of the year award. "(McCallum) had a great year for us last year," said general manager Wally Buono, who felt the kicker also should have been named top Canadian. "When you look at his consistency over the years, its not diminishing as hes getting older ... He was a tremendous asset to the football club." Buono praised McCallum for his strong off-season training regimen and said the kickers consistency brought a great deal of confidence to the Lions. Now, the question is not how soon McCallum should retire, but rather how long he can keep going. "Footballs a young mans game -- unless youre a quarterback or a kicker," said Lions coach Mike Benevides. "So Paul being the oldest player in the league, I think only he can determine (when he retires.) Hes been fortunate injury-wise. He takes care of himself. Hes kind of that unique freak of nature." McCallums signing also gives the Lions more time to develop 22-year-old Hugh ONeill, who spent all of last season as an understudy to McCallum and is destined for a similar role in 2012. McCallum has no problem assisting ONeill if he asks questions, but he does not see himself as a mentor to his possible replacement. Sometimes, said Buono, mentoring just involves a young kicker watching and learning from a veteran. ";My view on developing kickers is like quarterbacks," said Buono. Nike Free Run Schuhe "Youve got to get them, youve got to groom them, youve gotta cultivate them, youve gotta test them. And then, eventually, youve gotta put them out there to see if they can handle it, because the pressure is usually the most difficult thing to deal with." The GM said it is not part of McCallums job description to tutor ONeill, but the situation has the potential to help the Lions in the long run. "Sometimes (kickers) hate each other," said Buono. "Sometimes they love each other. Youd prefer that they love each other." McCallums new contract was partially overshadowed by the loss of two important parts of the championship team. The Lions announced Friday that defensive line coach Randy Melvin has left unexpectedly for an undisclosed new job in the U.S, while offensive lineman Jovan Olafioye signed with the St. Louis Rams of the NFL. Buono and Benevides have plenty of affection for Melvin, who molded a defensive line that helped the Lions overcome their horrendous start while tormenting opposition quarterbacks. As a result, the GM and new coach had no problem letting Melvin out of a contract the same week the team announced he had signed on for another season. Melvin stayed just one season with the Lions after joining them from Rutgers University. He has also made college-level stops in Wyoming and Eastern Illinois, toiled in the NFL with Denver, New York, Cleveland and New England where he won a Super Bowl in 2001. "This is something that just came about within the last, say, 48 hours," said Buono. "Obviously, it is a tremendous opportunity for him." Buono will leave it up to Benevides to hire a replacement. Benevides indicated the search process has already begun and things could happen quickly. Olafioyes departure was anticipated after the tackle led a dominant offensive line and earned CFL all-star honours in his third CFL season. The six-foot-six and 325-pound North Carolina Central product had worked out for several recently before opting to sign with the Rams. Although Buono was "sad" to see Olafioye go, he took "a tremendous amount of pride" in helping him achieve his NFL dream. Nick Hennessy, a 25-year-old Colgate product who signed with the Lions as a free agent in October 2010, has been slotted into Olafioyes starting spot. ' ' '
