PHOENIX -- Fans were guaranteed a good time or their money back at the Phoenix Suns game against Dallas. Nike Air Max 95 Schuhe Damen. They were not guaranteed a victory, and they didnt get one -- just another failed Phoenix comeback. A tough, fall-away 21-footer by O.J. Mayo proved to be the difference as the Mavericks handed the Suns their fifth loss in a row, 97-94 on Thursday night. It was a nice bounce-back for a Dallas team beaten by 22 by the Clippers in Los Angeles 24 hours earlier, the Mavericks fourth loss in five games. "After playing a game last night we could have made a lot of excuses for ourselves as far as we had a tough game last night and didnt play well, but we flushed it and we came today with a lot of energy," Mayo said. Mayo scored 23 points, including that go-ahead jumper with 35 seconds to go. Brandan Wright and Darren Collison scored 16 apiece for Dallas. Wrights total was a season high. Chris Kaman added 15 points. "We played one of our strongest-willed games," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "Difficult situation, losing time coming off the back-to-back and a rough one last night. Everybody played with a lot of heart, a lot of guts. It was really a war of attrition out there with the injuries and all the stuff going on. Everybody hung in and we found a way and its a huge win for us." Markieff Morris had 15 points and a career-best 17 rebounds for the Suns, who rallied from 15 down in the third quarter to tie it in the final minute. Kaman (sprained ankle) and Shawn Marion (strained right groin) left the game with injuries for Dallas, as did P.J. Tucker (sprained knee) and Jermaine ONeal (eye) for Phoenix. The game was played on "money-back guarantee night," when those who bought a ticket could get their money back if they didnt have a good time. The Suns said it was the first promotion of its kind in the NBA. It was the first game back for Phoenix after a 1-5 road trip that included a strong game at Memphis, where the Suns led by 16 before losing in overtime. One of those losses was a 40-point blowout in Detroit. The others all went down to the wire. "Its always the same story," the Suns Goran Dragic said. "We came up short. ... When youre down so many points and youre battling, your energy is going away because youre trying to get back in the game." Morris 3-pointer cut Dallas lead to 87-85 with a minute to go, then Shannon Brown stole Collisons pass and was fouled. Brown made two free throws with 48.5 seconds left to tie it at 87. But with Sebastian Telfair guarding him closely, Mayo knocked down the tough shot to put the Mavericks back ahead for good. Dragic, who scored 15 points but shot only 5 of 14, missed an open driving layup that would have tied it. "He (Mayo) made that tough shot and we missed an easy layup," Dragic said, "and there goes the game." Dallas sealed it with eight free throws in the final 19.3 seconds -- four by Collison and four by Vince Carter. Trailing 44-40 at halftime, the Mavericks ran past Phoenix 23-4 to start the third quarter, opening a 63-48 lead with 3:50 to go in the period. Mayo sank his third 3-pointer of the night -- in four tries -- and Wright, who had not played in three of the previous four games, made consecutive baskets, on a dunk and a layup, to cap the outburst. Phoenix missed 13 of its first 14 shots in the quarter and went 7 minutes without a field goal. Dragic and Tucker hit 3s to bring the Suns out of their funk enough to cut the lead to 69-62 after three. Jared Dudley opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer, then Telfairs layup cut it to 71-67. Consecutive baskets by Wright boosted the lead to 81-71 with 5:40 to play. NOTES: Fans with single-game tickets who decide they didnt have a good time can fill out a form to get a rebate. ... FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The familiar showdown had a new twist -- Peyton Manning in a Denver Broncos uniform. It ended as it usually does with Tom Brady winning the matchup of marquee quarterbacks. But not before Manning nearly pulled off another fourth-quarter comeback in a career filled with them. In their 13th meeting, and first since Manning left the Indianapolis Colts, Brady directed four scoring marches of at least 80 yards and the Patriots won 31-21 on Sunday. Hes 9-4 in his career against Manning. "Nobody Id rather have than Tom Brady," New England coach Bill Belichick said, "but Mannings a great player." Manning had led his teams back in the fourth quarter to 36 comeback wins. And the Broncos (2-3) rallied from a 31-7 deficit with about five minutes left in the third quarter on Mannings scoring passes of 2 yards to Eric Decker and 5 yards to Brandon Stokley. The Patriots (3-2) lost the ball on Stevan Ridleys fumble on their next possession and Manning completed a 28-yard pass to Demaryius Thomas to the Patriots 14-yard line. But two plays later, Denvers comeback hopes faded when Willis McGahee fumbled and Jermaine Cunningham recovered at the New England 11 with 3:42 remaining. "We can build on that" ability to whittle a big deficit, Manning said. "I do think that will help us win a game at some point." Brady downplayed his meeting with Manning. "Its Patriots-Broncos," he said. "It was a great team win. We got some turnovers from our defence and I thought offensively capitalized at times. There were a few lulls in there, which I wish we had executed a little bit better, but for the most part its a good day." Brady completed 23 of 31 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown and ran for another, operating much of the game out of a no-huddle offence. "Its not new," Denver coach John Fox said. "Theyve been doing this for a long, long time. They just have a good group of guys together doing it. ... Our guy (Manning) did an outstanding job today as well." Manning was 31 of 44 for 345 yards and three touchdowns but lost a fumble on a third-quarter sack. That led to Ridleys 8-yard run that put the Patriots ahead 31-7. Ridley led the Patriots with a career-high 151 yards rushing. They gained 251 yards on the ground, one week after rushing for 247 in a 52-28 win over the Buffalo Bills. "Its awesome," Ridley said. "It takes a lot of pressure off Brady. And thats our leader." The Patriots set a franchise record with 35 first downs as they kept their offence rolling one week after gaining 580 against the BBills. Air Max 90 Herren Weiß The Broncos sputtered after beating the Oakland Raiders 37-6. Their previous two losses were by just six points to the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans. "I know theyre been great teams weve lost to, which still doesnt make it any easier," Manning said. "We are working on things and building things. It doesnt happen right away." Brady and Manning first faced each other in the third game of the 2001 season. The Patriots won 44-13 in Bradys first career start. There were plenty of close games in subsequent regular-season matchups with six of the previous seven decided by seven points or less. But, Manning said, "this is not a team you want to fall behind to." The Patriots led 17-7 at halftime and 31-7 after three quarters. Brady and his runners kept slicing through the Denver defence with a balanced attack. They went ahead to stay, 14-7, midway through the second quarter on a 14-play drive (seven pass plays and seven runs) capped by Shane Vereens 1-yard run. Ridley had his third 100-yard rushing game of his career, all this season. Wes Welker, the NFLs leading receiver last year with 122 catches, had 13 for 104 yards. "There were a few times where I didnt get open," he said, "but for the most part I feel like I got open a lot and was able to make some plays." The Broncos wasted an excellent opportunity on their first series. Manning hit Thomas with a 43-yard completion to the Patriots 10-yard line, but Sterling Moore stripped the ball and recovered the fumble. The Patriots went four-and-out on the ensuing possession then the Patriots scored on their next three possessions -- 84 yards to Bradys 8-yard pass to Welker, 80 yards to Vereens touchdown and 93 yards to Stephen Gostkowskis 23-yard field goal. Denver did tie the game 7-7 on Mannings 1-yard pass to Joel Dreessen but didnt reach the end zone again until Manning hit Decker to end a 90-yard march, cutting the lead to 31-14 with 1:08 left in the third. But Manning couldnt bring the Broncos all the way back. "A week ago, we put it all together," Fox said. "I would have expected us to put it all together more this week." But Brady and his offence is a lot tougher than the Raiders. "You have to be balanced and I think we were doing a very good job when were calling the runs," Brady said. Notes: McGahee rushed for just 51 yards on 14 carries after gaining more than 100 in two of his previous three games. ... The Patriots rushed for more than 200 yards in consecutive games for the first time since 1978. ... New England outgained Denver 444 yards to 402. ' ' '
