The Jets, who are currently sitting in ninth place in the East, had won five in a row before dropping Saturdays shootout decision to the New York Islanders. The victory moved the Islanders four points ahead of Winnipeg in the conference standings. Winnipeg enters Monday three points behind the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators for the final two playoff bids in the East. The Jets and the Rangers, who are idle on Monday after Sundays victory over the New Jersey Devils, each have three games left in the regular season. The Senators have four games remaining and are hosting Pittsburgh on Monday. The Jets are also still in the mix for the Southeast Division title as they are three back of the first-place Washington Capitals, who also have three games left in the regular season and are idle tonight before hosting Winnipeg on Tuesday. The Jets trailed the visiting Islanders by a 3-1 score at one point on Saturday, but Winnipeg rallied before ultimately losing a 5-4 decision. John Tavares scored the game-winner in the third round of the shootout to lift the Islanders to their third straight victory. After the first three shooters came up empty, Brad Boyes got the Islanders on the board with a slick backhand-forehand move, but Andrew Ladd answered at the other end with a quick wrister past the stick-side of Evgeni Nabokov. Tavares then skated in and slipped a wrister through the five-hole of Ondrej Pavelec to end the contest. Kyle Wellwood potted a pair of goals, while Bryan Little and Zach Bogosian each scored once for Winnipeg. Pavelec recorded 29 saves in the loss. "We got down 3-1 and I thought we battled back," Winnipeg coach Claude Noel said. "We chased the game and we battled back to tie it. So for me, its a point that we gained." Bogosian (upper body) and forward Olli Jokinen both left Saturdays loss with injuries. While Bogosian is day-to-day and unlikely for tonight, Noel said on Sunday that Jokinen is out for the next 6-to-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Winnipeg has recalled defenceman Zach Redmond from his conditioning assignment with the St. Johns IceCaps. The Jets, who havent made the playoffs since 2007 when the club was still based in Atlanta, are playing the first of two straight on the road Monday and are 10-10-2 as the guest this season. After its visit to Washington, Winnipeg will close its regular season in Thursdays home test against Montreal. The Sabres, who will miss the playoffs for a second straight spring, had won three straight before getting slammed Friday by the visiting New York Rangers. Brad Richards first career hat trick helped the Rangers record an 8-4 win and the loss officially eliminated Buffalo from postseason contention. Cody Hodgson, Nathan Gerbe, Drew Stafford and Mark Pysyk all tallied for the Sabres, but goaltender Ryan Miller was lifted 1:13 into the second period after permitting four goals on 14 shots. Jhonas Enroth didnt fare any better, allowing four goals on 15 chances after taking over. "We were down 3-0 and then we came out in the second and gave them the fourth right off the bat," Sabres head coach Ron Rolston remarked. "At that point we were in tough sledding." Buffalo is playing its penultimate home game of the season tonight. The Sabres are 10-9-3 as the host in 2013 and will visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday before closing their campaign Friday at home against the Islanders. Winnipeg has won five straight games against the Sabres overall and two in a row at First Niagara Center. Nike Free Shop Schweiz. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- If the Indiana Pacers could make the NBA schedule, they would probably be playing the Detroit Pistons again on Sunday. Probably Monday, as well. One night after blowing the Pistons out in Indianapolis, the Pacers did the same thing at the Palace on Saturday night. David West scored 16 points and Paul George had a double-double to help Indiana cruise to a 90-72 win over Detroit. "Any time you play a team back-to-back, they are going to be dialed into what you do, especially with this being the fourth time this season." George said. "We knew they were going to make it a different game this time, but we take pride in our defence." The Pacers won 114-82 Friday night in Indianapolis, and led by as many as 21 in the return leg. George finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Indiana, which had five players in double figures and got Danny Granger on the floor for the first time this season. "Our defence carried us throughout most of the game -- we held those guys to 33 per cent," said Indiana coach Frank Vogel. "We struggled to make shots this time, but we still ended up at 45 per cent, which is pretty good." Granger, who sat out the first 55 games of the season with a knee injury, missed his first eight shots before hitting one in the fourth quarter. He finished with two points on 1-for-10 shooting in 18 minutes. "He was rusty, but thats to be expected," Vogel said. "Thats why we arent throwing him out there for 40 minutes. Hes been a lot better in practices, but this was his first time at game speed in a long time." Will Bynum led Detroit with 15 points before getting ejected for striking Tyler Hansbrough in the groin in the fourth quarter. Hansbrough said he didnt know what caused it, and Bynum wasnt willing to be specific. "It was just something that happened in the heat of the moment -- it wasnt something I planned intentionally," Bynum said. "TTheres a level of frustration when you are getting drilled by the same team for the second night in a row. Nike Free Run+ 3 Laufschuhe Blau Weiß" After trailing by as many as 43 in Indiana, the Pistons started the second game of the home-and-home series by missing 16 of their first 17 shots. "Our starting unit defends as well as any I have ever been around," Vogel said. "Theyve been doing this all year, and thats a big reason for our success." Still, as good as Indianas defence may be, the Pacers arent usually holding teams to under 6 per cent shooting for long stretches of the game. "We got a good example tonight of playoff basketball," Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. "We missed some shots at the rim early on, and then we got frustrated and started getting away from what we wanted to do." The Pacers struggled to take advantage, turning the ball over seven times in the first nine minutes of the game. Thats when Granger checked in for the first time this season. "It was different, because we were trying to get Danny into the loop -- we all wanted him to get into a groove," George said. "Once the second half came around, we knew we had to finish the game." Detroits second unit -- including three rookies -- took a 21-20 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Pacers finished strong to take a 39-28 lead at the break. Bynum had 13 points for the Pistons, but Detroits five starters combined for only 11 points on 4-of-22 shooting in the opening half. Indiana pulled away in the third quarter and, for the second night in a row, both teams emptied their benches down the stretch. "They have just had our number from start to finish," Bynum said. "There is no other way to look at it." NOTES: Detroits starters had one assist and eight turnovers in the first half. ... Charlie Villanueva and West picked up technical fouls for confrontations on back-to-back possessions in the second quarter. ' ' '
