Aloha gang,

Just wanted to get the word out early for this year’s edition of the Race Around the Hat. Registration will be up shortly and we are excited to have some excellent sponsors onboard. Kialoa was nice enough to provide with paddles to give away, Maoli Wa’a also provided paddles and clothing, Broad Reach Paddles will be providing give paddles as well. Island Paddler will also be there with prizes. As always Ocean Paddler TV will be there to document the event.

Kamanu Composites has really stepped up this year and is raffling of a brand new Aukahi V-1. The winner will be announced at the race on September 11th. All participants in the Race Around the Hat will get one free entry in the drawing and anyone can purchase an unlimited amount of tickets for $5 each. Kamanu will donate all proceeds from this raffle to the HVA youth program to defray travel, training, and race expenses for the 2010 distance season and Hawaiki Nui! We’ll post again once tickets are available and let you know how to get them.

So come out to beautiful Kualoa Beach Park and enjoy a great race, good food, tons of prizes, and a monster raffle.

I had actually been on the first edition of the Hawaiin annual race event. The scene and the vibe there was totally amazing. With live band and music along with the beautiful landscapes. But the only unfortunate thing that I heard was that there was actually no life or temporary medical insurance being provided to the athletes. I think in risk taking action games like these, athletes should definitely be insured. You never know what might have gone wrong, the sponsor was quite strong enough to take a bold move like this. I hope that this season the athletes get insured and secured.
