Event Description:

Aloha,

Come out to support Ke Kula o S.M. Kamakau, a Hawaiian language immersion school in Ha'iku, O'ahu. This is the schools second fundraiser race. Last year the course was from Kailua to Kaneohe. This year, the course is from Maunalua Bay to Kaimana Beach.

The date is November 3rd. Register online or the day of the event. Pre-registration is $25, and $30 after.

Please go to the website https://sites.google.com/site/onamoiehukai to register and pay.

Beside this race being a fundraiser for our new campus, it also serves as a reminder of our important place names along this year's course. The original names of mountains, valleys, streams, heiau, surf spots, rain, wind, etc from Maunalua to Waikiki will be shared. If we don't use these names, they will die forever.

Once again, there is a story that accompanies this race. There are 4 distinct areas that deal with certain mo'i ali'i that we have decided to tell the stories of along the course from Maunalua to Kaimana.

1) Ke'eaumokupa'ihaehae: The father of Queen Ka'ahumanu and general to Kamehameha I passes away in Maunalua. At his funeral is the last time the Kumulipo is chanted in its entirety.

2) Kamehameha I: He lands thousands of double hull canoes on the shores of Waialae to Waikiki, He gets ready for the Battle of Nu'uanu.

3) Kakuhihewa: The famous king of O'ahu. He is in the Battle of Kukaeunahiopueo, "Battle of the Owls" which takes place at Kupalaha Heiau. Which is on the west side of the Waikiki Aquarium.

4) Ulukou: The capital and royal residence of Kakuhihewa, Kahekili, Kamehameha I, and Liliu'okalani, na Moi Ehukai.
Please come out and support our fundraiser canoe race and learn about the places we live and paddle.
Entry fee will include entry, insurance, cap, and ono food.
We will also have raffle and entertainment and shirts to sell.

You can register online at https://sites.google.com/site/onamoiehukai. Early registration is $25 and $30 after.

If you have any questions or would like to donate to our fundraiser or school, please contact me at dkh2yk@aol.com.
