I heard that the finish will be outside of Kaimana because the coast guard wont let the finish happen in Waikiki...Any truth to that rumor?

It looks to be the same course as usual. Here is the link from Lanikai's website of the course.

No changes to long course, gang.
Hilton and Atlantis have asked for consideration when finishing---please have escorts head around to Ala Wai harbor for drop off of team, coach, and gear instead of using the atlantis sub pier. Short walk across parking lot to the finish tents for grinds and drinks. Mahalo.
OHCRA stressed to LCC the importance of VHF radios that are hard-mounted to the vessel (and not hand-held VHF.
Finally, there are good looking t-shirts for all participants. Turn in canoe number 'socks' to receive bag of stuff including the shirts.

with an 18 y/o division, are paddlers planning to paddle with the ILH for high school ineligible to race?
#3 Fri, 08/13/2010 - 7:50pm
per ILH rules paddlers are allowed to race any 6 man race outside of the ILH season. as far as i know practices don't start until November.
#4 Fri, 08/13/2010 - 10:43pm
After speaking with a friend who sent me this picture, the word from the AD in charge of canoe paddling, yes there is a off season restricted period that actually began on August 1st. Although there was a blanket protection granted by the ILH and HHSAA to allow kids that qualified for the state race opportunity to participate without becoming ineligible for the upcoming ILH season.
I also noticed that there is another restricted period directly after the high school state race. Was there one last year around the same time? I know some kids like to jump right into the Na Opio races after high school season is over.
#5 Sat, 08/14/2010 - 3:24am
results???
#6 Sun, 08/15/2010 - 7:59pm
wow. thanks for the clarification dlee. i've been coaching an ILH team for the past 15 years or so and my understanding had always been that participation was allowed so long as it took place outside the season. i see now that apparently the beginning of distance season is off limits. Seems strange that there would only be an allowance for one race. wonder how this will be enforced.
#7 Sun, 08/15/2010 - 10:41pm
Dlee,
This is complete Bullshit if you ask me. When I was paddling ILH kayaking and paddling I was also racing for Lanikai. I did all the long distance races and the molokai hoe when I was 17. I did all the OC1 races, so don't let ILH sports stop you from competing. Fight it and if you need help, I will fight it for you!
#8 Sun, 08/15/2010 - 11:03pm
Pat, I was under the same impression.
Come to think of it, 17 years ago I would have been an illegal paddler too.
If this rule were enforced I would say 75% of the ILH crews that have raced since the rule was made would be DQ'd. Not to mention every state champion since it's inception.
#9 Sun, 08/15/2010 - 11:13pm
watch your mouth Big Time
#10 Mon, 08/16/2010 - 6:18am
The high school (all schools state-wide) rule is that you can't compete as a school, under your h.s. coach, during the restricted period. The kids can do any race that they want to at any time during the year.
#11 Mon, 08/16/2010 - 6:56am
ah, that makes more sense.
#12 Mon, 08/16/2010 - 8:15am
is there results from the race?

Just want to let everyone know that I did not make any posts on the Honolu Star Advertiser website. Someone is being an idiot and has no respect and posted something using my name. I have total respect for everyone out there, and was glad to see that the bar has been raised by Livestrong, Primo, Hui Lanakila, and Lanikai. Clearly we at OCC got our butts kicked. No excuses we had a bad day. Congrats to all who raced and to Primo for showing us how its supposed to be done. C U all this weekend or in Kona. Let's make Hawaii proud.
