HCRA canoe specifications

When were the original HCRA canoe specs drawn up? Has there been any changes or modifications to these specifications? Were any boat builders of the day involved in the writing and/or changes of these specifications?

Wally Froiseth was instrumental in creating the regs. Not sure who else.

The original HCRA dimension specs were established in 1977 after measuring most of the existing koa racing canoes on all the islands. The original specs were based primarily on canoes around 40ft in length and there has been an adjustment in measuring the front and rear rocker to allow for canoes closer to 45 feet in length. There has also been a 2% allowance given on the 8 points of measurement in the bow and the stern to accomodate for fluctuations in water level. Other than that, it's pretty much the same.
There have been more revisions to the rules regarding building canoes than to the specs themselves.
