Anyone recommend a good Heart Rate Monitor.

My wife! She still tends to raise mine.

Serious note, I like the old Garmin 301 because of the large face, easy to read if you need glasses.(Old stock would be cheap too if you can find them) As on other threads here you will note there is a new one out that is much more waterproof but I haven't killed the old one yet.

Old Garmin better display, failed due to water damage.... New 305 working well, easier to wear on the wrist for the very few times paddling with it on, easy to mount to a boat. I put it on a front bugee....

Recently dug up and started using the heartrate monitor that came with my 305. Used it running a few times and seems to work well, but when I wore it paddling the thing kept beeping to tell me that my heartrate was too low. Eventually I got annoyed and just shut it off. I tried to change the settings, but was unsure of what needed to be changed.

Anyone have setting suggestions to avoid the incessant beeping??

Refer to page 9 (Training Alerts) of the Owners Manual for the Garmin Forerunner 305 - changing the heart rate alert setting starts on page 11

You can get the owners manual here or download the attached:

btw, Zebignu, I'm assuming youre referring to the Forerunner because there's also the Edge 305- which in that case its on page 26 - updating heartrate alerts.

Of the two, I like the Forerunner 305 since you can wear it on your wrist. The Edge is mainly used for bike mounts but it has a nice display as well.

if your just looking for a heart rate monitor then you could look at the Polar heart rate monitors, a lot less expensive than the Garmin GPS w/ heart rate monitor attachment. Then again you don't get GPS w/ the Polar you just get a heart rate monitor.

I received the new Garmin 310 for Christmas. I'm just starting to use it on the water. So far I like it. I've used a Garmin 201 in the past. So far I find the HR monitor to be spot on, I like the virtual partner, the fact that it's rated to be waterproof, and I've only scratched the surface on the capabilities of the included software. The "con" of the thing is it's price. I got a rebate from Garmin...but I still know it's up there in price. I'm also trying to figure out a way to mount the thing on my canoe (I like it between my feet somewhere). It's kind of awkward shaped AND I definitly don't want to lose the thing in the drink!

Thanks, Kamamakakaua! I lost the manual for the Forerunner years ago (surprised I still had the heartrate monitor).
