Hurricane seat

Hi there, I´m wondering if anybody have developed a new seat for Hurricane.
Seat is a little small and quite low for a stronger stroke looks like it needs a higher back support
I remembered Rambo did a new one for his hurricane some time ago
Any suggestions?

A friend of mine using this http://www.huki.com/store/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=62 , taking the glider out and use velcro instead. His Okole is a lot happier.

we have 2 hurricane owners in our squad who have replaced the original seat with a Wainui seat . As Kaipu mention takeing the glider out and use velcro . SUPER comfortable and control.

I was thinking about it. a little shaping with a piece of sand paper. to go with the flow of the canoe. and a little on the inside. one thing I noticed was I am a little higher which I like for leverage and comfort.

Are there any aftermarket seats that don't require the removal of the glider? I want to purchase a seat as an xmas present for one of my buddies (never paddled OC1) who is about to get himself a hurricane. Also, any other contacts aside from Huki and Kai currently? I think the glider removal might be a bit too intrusive for my friend and his new hurricane at this point.

If your friend doesn't want to remove the original seat glider rail, then he would need to cut a channel in the replacement seat you buy in order for it to sit flat and secure for the velcro.

The glider rail is secured with a few stainless steel screws that can be removed with just a screwdriver or allen wrench. Simple enough to put back on if he wants to use the original seat.

As for other places to get a replacement seat, you could try checking with the local manufacturers (Outrigger Connection or Kamanu Composites) to ask if they can shape a custom one for you from an uncut piece of foam block. Not too sure if the softer EVA foam that Kamanu uses now would be good to use since the Hurricane doesn't have a recessed seatwell to enclose the seat foam. Better to use the Divinycell/minicell foam as it is more denser giving better support and won't easily "give" like the EVA would.

If he tries a kai seat he will not go back. control and comfort is greatly improved.
