Hey there, I lost my one man canoe in the ocean off Kahala coast/ Diamond Head area yesterday around 4pm. It's a Fuze Outrigger Connection canoe with a yellow/red top and white bottom. It has a few stickers on it. Lost the paddle (Moana Nui all wooden blade), too. If you hear of it, or see it please email me, or give me a call. 808.428.7113 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 808.428.7113 end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
Thanks guys!!! Don't paddle further off shore than you are willing to swim back :-)
Aloha

The story is not all that spectacular but I can share it... I apologize upfront for not being a good story teller.
This was supposed to be another windy downwind run with tons of fun ahead going by myself. Leaving HK, I paddled off shore a bit to find good bumps.
Since I was alone – my mate could not make it -- I had my leash on, a float plan, a cell phone around my neck (which is new to me but quite useful). Being alone I wanted to use the time to practice and focus on things that I had trouble with before– compared to chasing bumps when you go with your mates -- when you end up racing each other and goofing around.
Taking off on a couple exciting bumps and trying to fly the ama a bit, I was all stoked about how fast I was going – but it ended abruptly when some side chop hit the boat and I fell off. The boat did not huli, it maintained some speed and the next gust supported the momentum… I tried to grab the very tail end of it but was not able to hold on to it …Shoots. It took a split second to realize that the leash was gone(???) and that I needed to let go of my paddle. I swam as hard as I could after the boat - about ~20min later I realized I could not go fast enough and was spending a lot of energy-- not a pleasant feeling to see your boat go w/o you – followed by a long swim to shore and a big frustration about losing your craft and paddle. .….that’s the story – not spectacular as I said. What happened to the leash? I have NO idea!
Anyway, you guys take care when you go play by yourself. Look out for the 'OH SHI*'-factor -- which likes to hit you unexpected and especially when you feel too comfortable and safe. See you on the water. Aloha
P.S. If you have a boat for sale....

sometimes the velcro on the leash doesn't hold, hard to say though. the main thing is you made it to shore. bummers about your boat and paddle but nothing compared to your life. can always replace those. hope you find your boat or get another one soon. thank your lucky stars bro'.

You might tell the Coast Guard to be on the lookout for your boat, since it was unharmed and still floating when you last saw it.
I lost a friend years ago on a high lake near Tahoe, when a gust blew his canoe off the shore and he jumped in and swam after it. It kept blowing just out of his reach until he was way out in the lake, when he stopped, turned back to shore, yelled for help and sank. Divers found his body suspended 60' below the surface on the next day. Tragic.
Glad you made it!
