Polishing canoe to make it go faster

Hi, anyone out there know whether or not polishing the bottom of canoe and ama will make it travel faster in the water. I have been told alot of paddlers do it.

I dunno what that polishing advantage may be. That reply is for the high tech guys and probably a 250+ meter sprint concern. As a mere mortal, I like to use that kind of rationale to excuse me from training smarter/harder. I really like Karel Sr.'s theory that taking a good dump prior to racing will knock a pound or two off, making your 24# dog of a boat a sleek 22# annihilator. At the end of the day, I'm guessing its some of an equipment issue vs. a lot human issue. BTW. A quote I read today was , "You know little man, the harder you work when nobody is watching, the less you'll bleed when its time to perform".
