The Saltwater Festival - Video

"Aussie Aloha" ... that's the best way i can describe The Saltwater Festival.

When Trevor Hendy and his Team invite Ocean Lovers for two days of Paddling, Music, Food, Family and Fun, the likes of Jamie Mitchell, Dean Gardiner, Shannon Eckstein, Ky Hurst, Greg Long, Chris Maynard, Woogie Marsh, Allison Fullagar and many others, find the appeal irresistible.

SUP, Ski, Outrigger, Paddleboard, Beach Volleyball, ThunderCats, The Saltwater Festival has it all.

"Chris Maynard" - one of the best 30k Downwind paddles i have ever done ....

It was held near NSW/QLD boarder just south of the Gold Coast. V1 no problems if you have a skirt fitted .... on the canoe that is.

The format is being exported to other countries and locations as a means to grow ocean paddling and bond all disciplines. Awesome idea and some truly great people and Sponsors behind it.

Awesome video Rambo, but when do you have time to paddle these days with all the videos you've been posting? :-)

Watching the super sprints section, I started thinking it would be pretty cool to do a relay between the four disciplines shown: outrigger, surfski, paddleboard, and standup. Maybe just a fun short course where each person does a lap while escorting an awkwardly shaped object that would serve as the baton to pass off? Could be a fun event at the end of the day.

Videos and promotion of Ocean Paddling Sports is now my full time job so that's how i found the time. Yep doing a bit less paddling too but ramping that up again.

I still think the future of BIG races is about SUP, ski, OC pooling resources and having MEGA events. We all love the Ocean and paddling so we can't be all that different. No sure why there is that stigma.of....... he's a ski guy... or he's an outrigger paddler, we should be one big happy Ohana and be just Ocean Paddlers.

I think it's already starting to happen with Lauren Bartlett and Lewis Laughlin, (Ski and OC1) Georges Cronstead (reportedly paddling SUP as well as V1) and many other examples of Ocean paddlers crossing disciplines.

More vids coming....

There's no reportedly paddling SUP about Georges, he's good mates with Raimana the Teahupoo charger. Check this shot out.

Thanks Rambo for the information. Do you recommend flying into Gold Coast airport or Brisbane?

Gold coast Kingi, event was only 15mins from the airport.

Reuben, i hadn't seen that pic of Georges on SUP, thanks for posting that link. Do you guys have SUP in Rarotonga yet? I know there are only a few skis.

A couple of guys have SUP's not really taking off yet. We're due to get a delivery of ski's and an olympic level coach over in the next month to train us to coach through a ICF grant with a vision towards K1. The ski's are seen as a good entry level and for cross training for vaka. The Saltwater looked like a great couple of days, nice job Rambo.

Hey Reubs, how fun would a SUP race from Jacks to the Boiler and back be, same as the swim. Would be a fun addition when enough SUP's are available. Maybe create some jobs for some of the locals making simple SUP boards and paddles. Holidaying visitors could rent them when not needed.
