Shark Sighting at Honoli'i 20Jan10

Just to let you folks know, there was a 12' tiger shark sighted cruising around Honoli'i yesterday and along the Hilo/Hamakua coast, 20 Jan'10. I guess that explains why I didn't see anyone in the water as I paddled by!

Just mentioned this to a buddy ... His reply was.

Just surfed with him at the point. A guy by me thought it was turtle till it did a side roll and he saw it's side fin. I surfed for another hour and saw nothing. He is alllways there. That's his house, the point reef his breakfast buffet line.

It is their home after all. Funny thing is, no matter what area you are speaking of; Honoli'i, Pohoiki, La Aloa, Makalawena, Kahana, etc, it's always "a 12' tiger shark". =)

Yep! That's all it takes for them to make a mistake. So that's why I stop McDonalds for pick up one cheeseburger and french fries for give gramps, his favorite food, when I go paddle.

How in the world do you see anything in the water at Honoli'i? That water is not very clear...

White flashes I hear. Never saw though.

Same friend just told me a giant turtle tried like crazy to crawl up onto his board the other day ....

Either he was looking good or the turtle was trying to get out of the water anyway possible ???

Also heard this story last week: A shark came right up to one paddleboarder, he smacked it with his paddle but fell off.
Everyone laughed as he made the worlds fastest remount onto the board.

If it were me I would have 'bounced' off the water like a scalded cat. : 0
