Awesome conditions, spectacular scenery! Trades 15-20 mph. MArk Frazier and Gene Lopez set the buoys offering a punishing mile long upwind leg, turning the buoy for a great surf run to another buoy off the Hanalei "Bowl" turning upwind for a 500 yard trudge to the finish. Peter Doories from AUS appeared to have a good lead until the Hanalei Bowl area and allowed local canoe builder Kelly Foster to catch up. Both turned the last buoy for a sprint home w/ Peter edging Kelly by 5 seconds. Matt Carter of AUS was third w/ Jody Simpson 4th, Danny Sheard (AUS) 5th. HAnalei paddler Kristin Foster caught some surf just after the final turning buoy to jump ahead of Alana Frasier Goo. Belinda O'Sullivan from AUS was third. 26 OC1 canoes participated in this warm up preparing for the Steinlager/YMCA Kauai World Challenge tomorrow 5/8. Jimmy Austin and Manny are the favored team to win the challenging 34 mile coastal relay. Complete results will be posted for the "Fun Run" on the Kauai Hoe Wa'a website.

Aqua Resorts Hawaii/Steinlager Kauai World Challenge May 8. Jimmy and Manny 1st (no surprize as these guys are on fire) Mike Murray/Travis Grant 2nd, Simeon/Tapa 3rd. JAne McKee/Kristen Foster 1st, Andrea Moeller/Noe Auger 2nd, Kelly Fey, Lori Nakamura 3rd. Good conditions , tough first and 2nd legs, 3rd leg a bit sticky, 4th leg some fun surf but not spectacular. Steinlager flowed-enjoyed by all. Great post race party, ono grinds as usual. Thanks to Aqua Resorts Hawaii, Kauai Hand Therapy, Steinlager, Makana Alii Paddles, Kia Kaha, Kauai County, KAuai Visitors Bureau, YMCA and many others for their support and help!
