How does someone make the cut ? Are there some kind of regional qualifying events ? What types of paddlers are selected.....oc1, k1 etc. ? and in what percentagte ? Who decides and by what criteria ?

A friend got "selected" for the National team but never told me how. Guess Hawaii is out of the loop.
