iako length

I bought a canoe that I'm going to fix up. It's missing the iakos. From what I've been told/seen originals were just straight tubes.

I bought the tube...2x 6ft.....what is the typical length of the iakos. It's a flat water canoe...Sealion. A pair of iakos I borrowed are about 3ft, but wasn't sure that was an ideal length.

I had a Sea Lion and I would bet that it was rigged somewhere are 44" or so. Ideal is whatever you feel comfortable with. You could probably go as little as 39", but I would think that 3 feet would be too short. Goodluck.

just make sure to measure from the centreline of the hull to the centreline of the ama !!! and stick with parallel too!!
