with Lorrin Harrison on his eucalyptus outrigger in 1960 (too young to really swing those big ass paddles but still OK with Lorrin...as long as we got in that Doheny wave at Indicators).

... it was about 17 years ago.... OpenOcean and I were just kids (we weren't even allowed in the open ocean yet). We were in the first novice program out of FCRCC. In our first OC-1 time trial (well over 500 meters!) I almost ran into him about 11 times. I wasn't so good with the foot pedals, and I'd come careening into his lane, apologize, and veer off again. We raced together in Molokai in 2007. Now he's a SUP guy, but I still run into him now and again (get it? bad at steering... and I run into him now and again.....?)

It was... 2007 during HCC's kamali'i program ka'apuni around Kaho'olawe... That I first stepped foot into a six man hawaiian outrigger canoe.
