New oc-2 owner

Hello,

New member here from Santa Cruz, Ca.

My little brother and I just bought our first outrigger canoe. It's a John Martin oc-2. We just got it last week and have only been out three times total. Although is is my first outrigger I do have some paddling experiance with my standard canoe, also we both surf so we are familiar with the ocean.

When we bought the oc-2 it did not come with any accessories. I need to pickup two good pfd's, paddles and a leash. Could someone please help me with some good options? I would like to keep the whole purchase under $500. I know there a million different options when it comes to these items but I don't really know where to start? I would also like to know a good online retailer who would carry these items.

We will be doing all of our paddling in the Monterey Bay. Mostly 6-10 mile paddles and surfing Cowell's.

Thanks

Tenbrook

As far as paddles, you've got a ton of options:
-Quickblade
-Mudbrook
-Kialoa
etc. These are all great paddles and most of the time if you shoot off a quick email to one of these companies with the specs that you're looking for, they'll get you pointed in the right direction.

As for the leash, I personally use a DaKine bodyboarding leash that you can pick up at practically any surf shop.

There have been discussions here about pdf's, I did a quick search and found one, there may be others:

Aloha Tenbrook,
I use an inflatable waist-pack PDF from West Marine on my OC1.
Like Keliki says, a bodyboard leash will get the job done and they're easy to find in Santa Cruz.
Have a chat with some of the folks from Outrigger Santa Cruz (http://outriggersantacruz.org), you'll probably be able to pick up a used paddle to get started with.
For some more info/conections in NorCal, check out http://www.ncoca.com and http://wavechaser.com/
Hope to see you on the water!
