OC-1 for small gal?

Shopping for first OC-1 for my wife. She is 5'4", and weights 95-100lbs. Looking for general Brand recommendations for OC-1 to fit her small size. All around canoe, paddling flat water/small down wind. Aloha!

Hurricane is ideal, goes without question. Also check out the Helium, coming soon to Hawaii by Foti Bros. see www.allwave.it

Helium fast like a va'a, responsive like an oc1.

sounds like you are on Maui. In any case try each of the suggested OC1s mentioned. See Wendall at TriPaddle on MAui- he has both the Hurricane and Pegasus. Get what is most comfortable. Peg rocks in the surf. See the MAliko video on the KAi Waacom website or it may be in the archives here on OCPaddler.

Nice vid. But I have a question about it. WHy do you need a rudder to paddle in that water? If you want to be fast like vaa then just paddle vaa. And for the original poster, you might want to think about what Jr, Kai, Keizo, Mike Giblin, Beenie Heen, Steve Blyth, and John Martin have to say too, and not just the three guys above me. Not counting paddlefasts cpmment.

paddleleaks that video has been made in mediterranean sea and belive me that day it was pretty flat but we have wind and waves pretty frequently....and that's the reason why we want have a rudder.
About va'a and speed i guess faster you can be happier you will be.....
Anyway i just wanted to share my personal experience about a canoe that is pretty unknown and i guess at the moment almost unavailable out of Europe.

For her size I REALLY wouldn't recommend a Pueo, she'd struggle with the size. While it is a good boat, Kamanu has yet to cater to the Wahine market. If you are on Maui, I'd suggest like the others. John Martin Naia Iki, however, those are becoming more and more rare seeing as how he has recently stopped shaping. Other than that, get in touch with the Bartlett's, cause they have an awesome line of boats for all sized riders. Go for the Pegasus, or the Scorpius XS if you can get your hands on one. they will all be pricey, so patience is key.

There's a lot of women (all sizes) that are paddling Pueos here in SoCal and they are making those boats fly!

Pueo too big for Wahines? It seems like it's about the same size as pegasus or hurricane. The only boats that are possibly too large would be the large size scorpius, and the Zephyr. The Zephyr is too much volume for anyone, from what I've seen : )

@jim i had to get a Fuzion because the Zephyr didn't have enough volume...lol!

what did you finally get your wife? If first canoe, Pegasus (used) would be the smartest buy.

She got a used Hurricane and is enjoying it very much.
Aloha!
