The guy said he doesn't want to paddle a canoe anymore. He said think he stayed alive because he hit the shark on its head with its paddle while the shark was biting the canoe. he believes it's what made the shark go away and not come back for him.

He was lucky... rescued by a power boat that was cruising not too far from where he was... Should he have been alone in the water... he might have not made it to the shore.
BTW it was a Tiger shark.
