Protection for my OC paddle blade- tape? or edge guard?

I want to protect my blades from getting damaged, so I'm thinking of either taping with electric tape or use one of the sup edge guard.

The main question is, if I use the edge guard on my OC paddle blade, would it affect my performance? I compete in half mile races so if anyone has used one of those edge guard on OC paddle blade, or have different suggestion, please give me an advice :P thank you

Best I can say is if you have a wooden blade, DO NOT put tape or anything that would seep water between. While taping looks cool and sassy, it will end up rotting the edge of your blade. Just take care of your paddle. Don't stick it in the sand to stand it up or draw pictures (may as well rub it with sandpaper). If you are drumming on the canoe and wearing your blade down, stop drumming. Just my thoughts.

Control the paddle, it should only be touching water for the most part.
