There are distance races on most islands. Our state championships for sprints is first weekend of august and distance season starts the following week:)

Okay, it's not Hawaii, and I'm not trying to hijack this thread. But in August it can be hot and beautiful in Canada and there are races the week before and the week after the World Sprints.
August 4th and 5th, the Vernon Canoe Club put on an awesome long distance change race, the party is always stellar. Small boats race on the saturday, big boats on the sunday.
August 18 and 19 is the Howe Sound International Challenge in Gibsons (just north of Vancouver, on the ocean). Iron length race, small boats on the sunday. The small town of Gibsons also puts on a great event.
It's only one time zone away from the sprints, and you can practice speaking Canadian....

"it can be hot and beautiful" ...am scared already but thanks for the options Kahuna. Howe Sound International is very attractive. Will look into that, a distance race will top a trip across the earth for sprints;)

Howe Sound is one of the most beautiful race settings I have ever seen. A great race in a friendly Canadian town.

Thank you guys, truly appreciate the info. Jacques, yes the link works and am convinced, have contacted organisers, waiting reply - looking forward to the Howe Sound:)
