The Future of Outrigger Canoeing?

This seems too good to have never been posted before on Ocpaddler... so, forgive me if it has and I'm double posting.

Event number 45 at regattas: Open Interpretive Freestyle. HCRA chooses the music, each crew has to choreograph on the spot. Talk about a way to retain youth and novices... if they could see the best in the sport doing the above, how could they not stick with paddling?

Actually, the paddler who started it all, years ago, was actually a Jr. sprint canoeist who use to paddle like this:

Shouldn't Hawaii be producing dozens of paddlers to take on the Canadians and Europeans who dominate Olympic sprint canoeing?
