Kanaka Ikaika race 5 = Holy Crap!

Best race of the year? Let's take inventory: Cranking trades and swell? Check. Long scary exposed cliffside section of random gaping holes/ tall whitewater bombs? Yep! 5 miles of deep water, warp speed downwind porn? Yes sir. Final leg of shallow reef crossing, with big swell feeling bottom and standing up tall at your back? But of course! That was the best 27 bucks I've spent in a while.

Would Indar have needed his "dippers"?

Sure weren't no gimme auto-pilot hawaii kai run. Still trying to unfuse my butt-cheeks after that wicked run. Any suggestions? Besides Indar, I noticed Gavin, Blaise, Wendell, Lori and Arlene were M.I.A. Got to admire those young teenagers Coburn Hopkins & Riggs Napolean and the Super Kapuna 70+ Joe Ah Yuen!!! --not to mention that Manny kicked the rest of the field in the butt by over 3 minutes--he must have been ripping. On a personal note: Mark Miller took me out at the finish after I 'threw the glove down' and challenged him in the Pinky's Canal two days earlier--good job dammit! p.s. Walter Hamasaki was DNF. Sam you can relax we all know he did not beat you by 2 minutes!

"5 miles of deep water, warp speed downwind porn? Yes sir"

I nominate pswitzer's post above as one of the top ten posts ever on OCPaddler, excluding shit talking posts of course.

Thanks healthearh aka Franko and it's spelled diapers. Didn't I beat u last race? I think u gave me chance right. I am sure it was a great race but we had an even better Makai Pair to Ala Wai run. That's what we all were doing. I think we had about 11 people. I got some Go Pro video of it. Let's pray for wind for Koa Nui this weekend.

No forget to give your race officials a big hug, for I give them credit for making a gutsy call. They no can rest until all racers accounted for making it through the "Slot." Main thing everybody safe. And about that busted ama in the Pacific Paddler video, maybe a mini Brent Bixler style strong-back would of prevented the damage? Regarding "auto-pilot hawaii kai run," not so when the wind changes direction 180 deg. abruptly at Black Pt.,, and now it is an uphill struggle against strong headwinds and tall steep waves.
