Legal paddles for OHCRA

Hey guys...maybe a dumb question...but need some help. Regatta season is starting and OHCRA has some rules about paddles......they should have wood shafts and wood blades but the blades can be covered with a protective covering. I looked on the official website to find out if they had a list of approved paddles ...Do " Quick Blades" fall in the legal category..they are carbon covered so i do no know if they have the necessary sliver of wood in the blade to make them legal. I do not think this is a big deal but the penalties seem pretty strong. I really like Viper hybirds but was told they would not qualify since the blades are all carbon on wood shafts. Mahalo.

from what I understand the blades must also weigh at least 400 pounds.

honestly though, if you have any doubts you can always go check with the race officials BEFORE using the paddle. if its illegal then you'll know. it's prolly not a big deal until someone you beat in a race protests the use of your paddle.

QuickBlade's Kaiwi and Kanaha are conforming paddles, but the Hapa is non-conforming. That is according to the HCRA websites Paddles- Conforming page:

These are paddles that are skinned with carbon fiber front and back, and have enough of sliver of wood to qualify as a wooden blade. lol.</http://www.hcrapaddler.com/index.php?action=paddles>

Big mahalo....I never saw that on their website. Funnny still that a sliver of wood covered with carbon or kevlar or whatever can really make a difference.....wood shafts are obvious. i knew my makana was legal was not sure about the QB,.
