Awesome. Looks like she's built to surf!

This canoe looks like great fun. A solid Maliko run like that would probably spoil me for life.

hey Bruddah Tim....

Take a look at Jimmy Man's Makapuu run video. Do us a favor and turn your camera the other way so we can see the bumps and see how the boat moves on the bumps. Don't know about the others on the site, but I want to see the canoe getting on bumps instead of watching Tim Lara paddle. Mount it on the back iako like what Jimmy Man did and we can watch the bumps and watch you paddle....how's that.. Mahalo Brah...

Jaws Out.....

Flaws,
Maybe actually watch the video? Youd see both angles.
Aloha.

Is it just me or is there some V3 / OC3 tension / static on OCP ?

FWIW .. Other 3man designs/options right around the corner.

aloha,
pog

Nice video!

#9 Wed, 02/29/2012 - 10:42am

...oh...ok...kala mai. I guess I got tired of watching you paddle and stopped watching.

Oh, BTW, you get good form. Looking good.

I have posted a video with great angles too. Please watch the whole thing through.

#11 Wed, 02/29/2012 - 11:51am

I agree wit Rachet, I rather watch the bumps!!!

#12 Wed, 02/29/2012 - 12:39pm

There definitely is some tension building. Race off between V3's?

#13 Wed, 02/29/2012 - 1:27pm

Im in. I'll take my crew from the video.

James,

at your weight and height you should really demo the XS. Fits you perfectly if it is surfing and all around. I am short but a lot of other taller guys who have come from other canoes find it works perfect.

Hi MauiTim,
Did you guys ever do flat water testing (sprinting) to find out what the hull speed for the Fai Va'a V3 is? I am trying to figure out what a good measure for a 3man flat water top speed might be. I realize this will depend on the crew. I am curious what three solid men or women could do in the Fai Va'a V3 canoe. Maybe if you don't want to share on open forum you can just message me about it.

I know it is quality canoe and is really fast as I can see from videos and testimonials from trustworthy friends. I am just trying to develop a really simple benchmark for comparing performance with other V3's. Important to point out that flat water hull speed most likely will not reflect the steering or surfing performance of the canoe.

Maybe we can try to develop a benchmark for steering performance as well by thinking up a test method for measuring tracking ability of the canoe or maneuverability. Maybe we can try to measure how tight of a turn it can handle and what kind of speed it can maintain through a turn.

Sorry if this is an invasive question. I know lots of people who say to just paddle the thing. I agree but maybe if we quantify performance then we can better understand how to go faster in this or any canoe.

On a closing note I have much respect for the craftsmen and designers and all the hard workers over at Fai Va'a. Their work is inspiring and I am stoked to see that they are having success with their canoes.

ya i'm for sure down. There is actually already a Tiger V3 over here on Maui so maybe you don't even need to ship yours over. how bout you guys come over for the Keanae race and we'll go the day after on our v3's for a maliko run.

Oh, and i'll keep the gopro on the front iako for that run that way we get both canoes in the video:)

Shit, them's fightin words Patski. Count me and my Tiger 3 man in as well. I don't mind shipping it. No Gopro for me though. I hear the camera adds 20 lbs, which is the last thing my fat ass needs, but I'm always up for a race downwind. ;-)

Bret,
Swweeeeet! The more the merrier. Which island are you on?

aaaand Numerouno,
Super classic. I'll see if i can't find some of those break away pants for the next maliko run… just for you.

247365, what about me? Would it fit the leader of the free world?

and come on, I was waiting for you to write something like "mauitim and aukina should paddle together harmoniously in an OC6 for world peace instead of challenging each other to a proverbial pissing contest"

i don't see it as a pissing contest so much as an opportunity to gather information about these new canoes. V3's are clearly a great addition to the paddling scene and ours has played a valuable role in our crew training for Olamau. So i think naturally there is a lot interest…. and a lot of questions about them. with only a few people having the opportunity to try them so far. with a new OC1 people can look at race results, read reviews and posts on this forum. But with the V3's there is still a lot of mystery. I have not tried Tigers V3, I'd love to. And at the same time I would welcome some testing between the two models so we can get some un-baised data on them. from talking to people who have paddled both the consensus seems to be like most anything… they each have their plus' and minus'.
