Maui nui

Got a few friends doing this race, and they did it last year too. The footage doesn't lie about how much fun These three channels are. Is it just me or do you think this race should have more advertising? So it could get bigger. It's like a mini olamau, there's even cash prize. Just not as much....

I'm not sure if more advertising would matter, since they only allow 10 entries anyway. How many did the race in the past?

I just finished doing this race and it was an absolute blast! A full day and a half of downwind action followed by varied conditions.
There were only seven crews this year. Not sure how many participated last year.
It's my understanding that they're limiting it to ten crews so that all the logistics are manageable. I'm sure If they had the 10 crews plus plenty more trying to register they would be motivated to ramp up the logistics for more crews.
My personal experience with the race was awesome. The organizers definitely did their homework to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone. I'm definitely going to do it again next year.
$1000 went to the top men's and women's crew and $500 to the top mixed crew. Plus some swag for 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

When I first saw the course for this race last year I didn't think this race would be any good. I think most people may have thought that last year so it didn't get the initial buzz of a three day downhill race would get. From talking to the organizers they are only permitted to have 10 canoes on Molokai because Molokai doesn't want escort boats over there fishing their waters. Once the organizers prove themselves then they will get permitted for more canoes. This is what I gathered from talking to organizers over there.

On to my experience of the race. This race along with Pailolo are the two most welcoming races that I've experienced. When people speak of Aloha in the paddling community or ocean community they should look to these organizers as expamples of how to practice true community building. A lot of talk is about tradition and how the past would look upon paddling today. We'll they would look upon these two events and smile with hearts full of joy and pride of what they may have help perputuate. Besides having absolutly great volunteers for this race, the course is very diverse and very fun with lots of surf except on the last day.

The food is great except they don't serve bacon for breakfast (which is probably why I wasn't able to iron the last couple days). The people are great. The music is great. The paddlers are all friendly. The beer and liquor is shared amongst the different teams. It's almost like the NFL Probowl game at the end of the season. It's competitive but it's Aloha. No boundries, no cliques, just a family of paddlers competing. Put this race on your "bucket lists"!!
