Aloha,
There is a little over a month until the 2013 Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge and those of us here in New York are really looking forward to putting on a fantastic event for all the crews coming from around the globe. For those of you who have not yet purchased tickets, we wanted to let you know that our race partner, Hawaiian Airlines, is offering a 10% discount from select cities to New York for the event. If you are racing, or have family or friends competing who you want to cheer on, you can book your flight here to join us in NYC on June 22nd.
We have a big event planned this year with a new race course and an all-day festival to take place during the event. You can find more details about the festival on our website and can keep up on the latest Liberty announcements on our facebook page.
Mahalo and hope to see you in NYC on June 22nd,
Brent

I'm from Hawaii. And just curious as to how come "HAWAIIAN" airlines. Can be a main sponsor for a race in NYC. Yet do pretty much nothing to my knowledge of helping in the islands. This message is not a stab at the airlines. But I'm sure there is a BUNCH of people with the same thinking?? Know anything about this situation?

KKK808, oh SNAP!
I thought the same too!
The way the finish of the molokai is set up, no offense, is bush league, would love someone to pimp the finish line fitting for a race of its magnitude.

just to hazard a guess, maybe because paddlers from HI don't fly to many canoe races?
By promoting a destination race on the east coast they stand to make a better return on their marketing dollars; especially if the paddling community (who by and large reside off the Pacific) are compelled to take part. afterall, they've already got the market cornered on paddlers flying to Hawaii for outrigger races...

Shame on Hawaiian, we load their pockets with all the travel we do for paddling within the Islands. They should be contributing back with sponsorship.

Salty Dog is correct. Hawaiian wants to promote a new route to New York. They don't need to promote interisland flights.
How many people have actually approached Hawaiian Airlines with an organized and clear cut sponsorship request?
