OK you guys, I may be available to help you out and I have the resume, but unless you want to pay by the hour, I only want to escort experienced top 25 crews. Not trying to be a jerk but it's too much work and liability to do it otherwise. If you qualify lets talk. leave your number. Aloha

just sent you a pm. Aloha

gundo, is this based on some bad experiences? Can you give any advice to non top-25 crews to make things go better for other escort boats (other than "paddle faster")?

Ken
I want everyone to paddle this race, fast or not, but there are some crews that come into this without the understanding of what it requires logistically and physically and it inevitably makes it the problem of the escort boat. ANY CREW needs to be prepared. I just don't want to baby sit any more. If you are doing the race for the first time, it will really help to discuss what is involved to make it work with as many veteran paddlers and boat drivers as you can. That's all, Aloha

I guess the "top 25" is a bit arbitrary but I am sympathetic to your point.

Aloha Gundo - your comment cuts both ways. I've been on escort boats who claimed they knew how to escort and they were a liability to the crew's well being. I would like to think as watermen, both on and in the water, we could expect some kokua all around. May I suggest that if you are escorting a beginner crew, that you not only take along a good first mate, but maybe also have a pre-race meeting with the coach and crew members...t'm sure they would appreciate whatever water protocol you can share as a captain.

Absolutely, many "escorts" out there who think it's all about the money to subsidize their fishing. Make sure they have a resume and find out what kind of boat they have. An old diesel engine is not a good escort. Nothing worse than racing the channel smelling diesel for 6 hours.

I have a boat available for escort in the Molokai Hoe. It is a 25' Radon with twin gas engines. I have done one Molokai Hoe many years ago. If interested contact TEXT only to 808-250-7604.
Mahalo.
